Visit any internet marketing forum on the web and you'll usually find a couple of posts from people bemoaning the fact that they have been submitting articles to article directories to promote their website yet have only a dribble of traffic to their site.
When you read further, you find that these people have submitted only a handful of articles and have done nothing else in the way of promotion.
While this method used to work many year ago, I'm sorry to tell you that in todays market, it's simply not enough to submit just 5 or 10 articles to promote your site!
To get a stream of traffic to your website, you need to do a lot more. More articles, more links to your articles and more types of promotion aside from articles.
The bad news is that this can be very time consuming, the good news is that if done properly, you will build a flood of traffic to your site that keeps coming for years even when you scale down your promotional efforts.
Stop Being A Wimp And Turn Your Trickle Of Traffic Into A Flood
If you're reading this, it's probably because you've also not been seeing the success you want from your promotional efforts.
Don't feel bad though, it can be frustrating to plug away day after day and not see much progress. That coupled with the fact that you see ads for IM products every day which make you believe you can get a flood of traffic in 24 hours . . . well, it's no wonder you are discouraged!
What you need to succeed is a plan.
Not only that, but you need to commit to your plan and stick to it even when it seems like it is not working. Believe me, follow through is critical and if you stop halfway you will never reap the traffic rewards you seek.
Here are some of the things that you should include in your website promotion plan:
1. Keyword research -- this is critical because if you target the wrong keywords you will never see traffic. Some big keyword research mistakes include targeting keywords that are too competitive and targeting keywords that do not get enough traffic.
2. Social Bookmarking -- Instead of submitting to hundreds of sites, pick 4 or 5 big sites and develop a relationship there. Bookmark your website content and all your articles as well as articles and websites from other people that you find of interest.
3. Distribute Articles -- Instead of sending articles to every directory on the internet, pick a couple of the best ones and submit your article there. How many articles are enough? I'd say 30 -- 50 to start, but the more the merrier!
4. Get links to your articles -- It's not enough to just submit them, you've got to link to them too. How do you do that? By social bookmarking and other articles!
5. Contribute To Blogs -- You want a varied website promotion strategy so in addition to writing articles, you will also want to contribute to the top blogs in your niche. You can do this by guest blogging as well as leaving quality comments on the existing posts.
Are you starting to see the picture that getting traffic to your website or blog takes time and effort?
Don't worry though, all your time and effort will pay off big time! At first you might only get a little traffic, but as you keep at it, the traffic will build and build. Eventually you'll be able to slow down your promotional efforts and still enjoy massive traffic to your site!
